Navigo Console • Run your SACCO like a modern operator

Navigo Console is the internal operations and administration platform powering the Navigo transit ecosystem. Built for authorized personnel, it centralizes GTFS data management, geospatial network planning, schedule optimization, fleet operations, financial ledgers, and access control in a unified back-office application.

The Brief

Managing a complex, decentralized transit network requires an extensive back-office system entirely decoupled from the passenger-facing application. Administrators and network planners need a secure, centralized environment to validate crowd-sourced data contributions, manage sprawling GTFS datasets, resolve critical data quality issues like duplicate stops or broken shapes, and oversee fleet operations, financial ledgers, and staff access control.

Approach

  1. 01

Developed a modern Single Page Application using React 19, TypeScript 6, and Vite, with Tailwind CSS v4 and shadcn/ui for a consistent, responsive administrative interface.

  2. 02

Implemented role-based access control (RBAC) with a persistent Zustand authentication store to organize access for moderators, administrators, and superadministrators, alongside backend-enforced authorization.

  3. 03

Organized the application using TanStack Router into six core capability areas: Data, People, Network, Scheduling, Operations, and Reach, separating responsibilities into focused operational modules.

  4. 04

Integrated Mapbox GL JS and react-map-gl to support spatial planning, route alignment, duplicate stop detection, and operational monitoring through interactive maps.

  5. 05

Built dedicated planning tools, including a timetable editor, headway optimizer, block builder, layover planner, and time-space diagrams to support structured network scheduling.

  6. 06

Developed a comprehensive data quality toolkit featuring a shape inspector for identifying stop gaps and implausible route jumps, a duplicate stop detector using name-similarity scoring, and GTFS validation workflows.

  7. 07

Designed fleet management and ledger modules to track vehicles, staff shifts, daily banking, revenue-sharing configurations, and payroll-related records.

  8. 08

Connected the console to the Navigo Laravel backend through an Axios HTTP client, using Bearer token authentication and centralized response interceptors for handling unauthorized sessions and automatic redirects.

Result

Navigo Console provides a secure, centralized operational hub for managing the broader Navigo transit ecosystem. It brings together GTFS data administration, geospatial network planning, data quality validation, timetable optimization, fleet management, and financial tracking within a single platform. By consolidating these capabilities, the console establishes a structured foundation for improving transit data reliability, coordinating operational workflows, and supporting the long-term growth of the network.
