Mova App • Transport et Mobilité Urbaine

Mova is a cross-platform mobile application designed to simplify group bus bookings for events such as funerals, weddings, and organized trips, contexts where transport coordination is often complex and time-consuming. Beyond this immediate use case, the product is conceived as the foundation of a broader mobility ecosystem, with a long-term vision to unify and digitize public transport systems in Congo-Brazzaville and, eventually, Central Africa. The app introduces a flexible user experience that combines on-demand group transport with emerging concepts like Mova Pass, bridging informal transport coordination and structured mobility systems.

The Brief

In many African cities, organizing group transport for events like funerals, weddings, or community trips is still largely manual, handled through calls, messaging apps, and informal coordination. This process is inefficient, error-prone, and difficult to scale, especially when managing multiple buses, passengers, and schedules. At the same time, public transport systems lack digital infrastructure, making it difficult to build structured, user-centric mobility solutions. Mova Mobility needed a practical entry point to solve a real, immediate problem while laying the groundwork for a long-term transformation of the transport ecosystem.

Approach

  1. 01

Focused the initial product iteration on event-based group bus bookings, addressing a real-world transportation challenge while reducing the complexity of coordinating passengers, buses, and schedules.

  2. 02

Led full-stack mobile development using React Native and Expo, delivering a consistent user experience across iOS and Android.

  3. 03

Leveraged Expo Application Services (EAS) to manage application builds, signing, and deployment workflows for both mobile platforms.

  4. 04

Designed and developed a Laravel REST API to support reliable client-server communication, maintainable business logic, and future product expansion.

  5. 05

Implemented authentication mechanisms and structured middleware to secure access to backend services and manage incoming requests.

  6. 06

Developed essential product features covering group booking flows, trip coordination, and transport management logic.

  7. 07

Expanded the product vision with Móva Pass, a subscription-based mobility offering designed to support recurring journeys for students and professionals.

  8. 08

Integrated NFC technology into the broader mobility ecosystem, connecting physical cards with digital transport services and laying the groundwork for more structured access and identification workflows.

  9. 09

Introduced background processing and queue-based workflows to improve responsiveness, handle time-consuming operations, and support growing application demands.

  10. 10

Structured the application and backend to support the evolution from event-based transport bookings toward recurring mobility services, while enabling integration with internal operational tools such as Móva Manager.

Result

Delivered and deployed a production-ready mobile application on both iOS and Android Simplified group transport organization for events, reducing coordination complexity and manual workload Provided a clear product-market entry point through a high-demand, real-world use case Established a scalable technical and product foundation for expanding into public transport systems Positioned Mova as a long-term mobility infrastructure player in Congo-Brazzaville and Central Africa Enabled seamless integration with internal systems like Mova Manager, reinforcing the ecosystem approach
